Abstract
Environmental issues have been discussed intensively and the education has become an influential instrument for the awakening of the ecological consciousness. However, it is necessary that the practice reaches everyone, including the students with special educational needs. This study aimed to analyze a key proposal of the environmental education in one institution that assists students with special educational needs, looking sensitize, mobilize and engage the students in the needs of environmental conservation, spreading ecological citizenship. Through a qualitative research, many activities related to the environment were developed over a period of four months for a group of 11 students, using different instruments for a data collection, based on action research. From the reading of the material collected, it was found that the awareness of the students was present in actions reported by teachers, management, parents and during the activities where students showed in many times critical thoughts. However, the group demonstrated behaviors and differents levels of awareness about the thematic, which reinforces the need of intensify works in Environmental Education for the training and inclusion of students with special educational needs.
