Abstract
Cancer is considered one of the most important public health problems worldwide. The drugs used in the treatment have great toxicity and adverse effects, requiring a multidisciplinary health team to care for this patient. Patients treated with antineoplastic therapies are candidates for the development of potential adverse reactions due to the narrow margins of medications in use
and prolonged treatment. The role of pharmacists in oncology has been evolving gradually, in which their role goes beyond the preparation of anticancer drugs, always seeking to reduce treatment-related problems, achieve therapeutic goals and prevent possible damage. Oncology pharmaceutical care has become essential to contribute positively, seeking effectiveness in pharmacotherapy and patient quality of life. This study sought to understand the care and actions developed by the pharmacist in the oncology service, through a search in PubMed, Academic Google (Scholar Google), Virtual Health Library (BVS), National Cancer Institute (INCA) databases, and others. The importance of pharmaceutical care was highlighted, from the evaluation of medical
prescription, storage, dispensing, quality control, medication selection, among others. Pharmaceutical care has been increasingly highlighted in the area of oncology, considering the pharmacist of paramount importance in monitoring the patient with cancer and in pharmaceutical care, thus promoting an improvement in adherence to drug treatment, in the prevention of adverse effects and
in quality of patients' lives. The role of the pharmacist in cancer treatment is still small, but it has been evolving.
