Abstract

The mini-implants have become increasingly popular in the dental field, primarily as an alternative to the stationary orthodontic skeletal anchorage, for example in the treatment of cellular biprotrusion and preservation anchorage during anterior retraction to space closure after extraction of premolars. To ensure the success of these mini-implants without premature loss of teeth next to them or some root damage, there is a need for an accurate assessment of the area that will receive the apparatus. Faced with this, the aim of this study was to perform a literature review to clarify the relationship between the placement of orthodontic mini-implants and the use of cone beam computed tomography as an aid to planning and the importance of such an examination. According to the literature review conducted, it was concluded that the use of cone beam computed tomography to study the best placement site of mini-implants is very important, promoting the success and stability of such devices.
